Image: Brian at the anagama kiln in Rufford
I make figurative sculpture, and when not moved to make sculpture I make pots. For both I use clay. In between I draw. I draw figures in the street, the life model, musicians, dancers and trees. I draw to see and what I see informs what I make.
What I make I fire with processes that are not totally predictable and contribute their own qualities to the work. How a piece is placed in the wood fired anagama kiln determines where the ash deposits, and where the flame goes. How much reduction is achieved determines the colouration in the raku firing. And how the glaze crazes also adds its character to the piece
