Figure and Landscape

"Refusing to be torn between the expressive potential of the human body in movement, and my passion for the landscape that I feel so much a part of I make work responding to both sources.

The FIGURATIVE work tends to be larger, wood-fired stoneware and the LANDSCAPE-based work tends to be raku fired paper-clay (there are exceptions).

What does not change is my devotion to ceramic processes that are not totally predictable and invite intuitive responses to chance. Discovery must be part of the process. For this reason, I am attracted to Raku and wood firing.

The common element in all my work is a feeling for space and movement through and within space. I expect 3D pieces to work as 3D compositions and not be mere facades."
